A super-PAC backing Hillary Clinton collected $200,000 in illegal donations – accepting money from a company tied up with two contracts with the Department of Defense at the time, The Hill reports.

Boston-based Suffolk Construction made two contributions of $100,000 last year to Priorities USA at a time it was also working on DOD contracts worth $976,560 for maintenance and construction projects at a Naval base in Newport, RI, and the Military Academy in West Point, NY, according to the government website USASpending.gov, The Hill reports.

Priorities USA stipulates on its website that donors can’t be federal contractors.

Suffolk — which, according to Forbes, brings in some $2 billion in revenue annually — also donated $10,000 in 2015 to Right to Rise, a super-PAC behind Republican Jeb Bush during his failed presidential bid, The Hill reports.

A 70-year-old campaign finance law is supposed to prevent pay-to-play deals between public officials and companies making money from the government – but is often ignored by a politically deadlocked Federal Election Commission, The Hill reports.

"Every political operative and campaign knows that the FEC will not enforce the campaign finance laws," Fred Wertheimer, president of Democracy 21, a campaign finance watchdog, tells The Hill.

"There’s an old line: 'If you don’t have enforcement of laws, you do not have the laws.' And that’s what we’re dealing with."

In addition to the donations to Priorities USA, The Hill reports it found 14 federal contractors that had contributed a total of $173,250 to Right to Rise. Two had also given to Conservative Solutions PAC, a group that supported Florida Sen. Marco Rubio's bid for president.
