Sen. Chuck Schumer on Monday said President Donald Trump should "stick to the substance," after Trump mocked Schumer for becoming emotional while condemning the temporary travel ban placed on citizens from seven countries, all of which are overwhelmingly Muslim.

"I'm not gonna dignify that kind of silliness," Schumer said on CNN's "Erin Burnett Out Front."

"Let him roll up his sleeves and put out something that really does prevent terrorists, rather than this. He ought to stick to the substance. Name calling and things like that are what's led to these problems that we're seeing. He doesn't take this presidency seriously enough, at least in this instance. I have said all along, there are times he flatters me, there are times he calls names. He's not going to influence me."

Trump's order, dubbed "Protecting the nation from foreign terrorist entry into the United States," bans citizens from Syria, Somalia, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and Iraq from entering the country for at least 90 days. It also suspends the refugee program for four months, bans Syrian refugees, calls for new immigration screening procedures and directs the secretary of Homeland Security to conduct a 30-day review to determine which countries fail to provide "adequate information" for its citizens to be issued visas to enter the United States.

Through tweets, Trump in part blamed Schumer for "big problems at airports" over the weekend. At a photo op Monday in the Oval Office, the president leveled his insults at the senator.

"I noticed Chuck Schumer yesterday with fake tears," Trump said before a meeting with small-business leaders. "I'm going to ask him who is his acting coach."

Trump went on, "'Cause I know him. I don't see him as a crier."

He added: "There's about a 5 percent chance it was real. But I think they were fake tears."
