Schumer: Dems Have 'Good Chance' of Blocking Vote on GOP Health Bill

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., vowed to try to block Republican legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare.

His comments came during an interview on the "Pod Save America" podcast, run by former Obama administration staffers.

Schumer said he hoped to get enough Republican senators to join with Democrats to block Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell from trying to push through a healthcare bill before the July 4 recess.

Republicans have 52 seats meaning they can only afford to lose two GOP senators.

In the event of a tie vote, Vice President Mike Pence will cast the deciding vote.

"The only way you can get on (with) a bill is called the motion to proceed…" Schumer said. "Our whole focus if McConnell will bring this up right before July 4 is to get three (Republican) votes against the motion to proceed, and we think we have a damn good chance.

"We can win this fight — kill this bad Trumpcare," adding that "this is full-scale warfare."

Republicans are expected to release a "discussion draft" of their proposed healthcare bill on Thursday and are looking for a Senate vote next week, according to The Hill.
