Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y., says critics of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway for promoting Ivanka Trump's clothing line should "get a life."

"I saw that interview . . . she was smiling, she was laughing," Collins said on CNN's "New Day." "Somebody's making a mountain out of a molehill here."

"I'd say get a life. This is not anything other than her commenting to the news of the day in a lighthearted fashion, and I certainly took it that way," Collins said.

Conway said "go buy Ivanka's stuff," during a televised interview on Fox News.

"I'm gonna just going to give a free commercial here," she continued. "Go buy it today everybody. You can find it online."

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz told NBC News that what Conway did "was wrong, wrong, wrong. It is wholly unacceptable — no if, ands or buts about it."

"It should have never happened, and they better learn this lesson very quick," Chaffetz added.

On Thursday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer told reporters that Conway had been "counseled on the subject," according to The Washington Post, but did not say if she had been disciplined or face legal consequences as some have called for.

"I'm just amazed that others seem to be trying to roll out the legal issues. I would never go down that road," Collins said.

On Friday, Conway tweeted that Trump "supports" her, and a senior administration official told CNN that Trump said in a meeting that he backed her "completely," and that he "hated" the use of the word "counseled."
