New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on MSNBC Wednesday defended President Donald Trump’s conversations with former FBI Director James Comey as “normal New York City conversation.”

Speaking with Nicolle Wallace on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House," Christie said Trump is an outsider president who may not be knowledgeable in the way different government agencies work.

"So I think over the course of time, we can talk about different examples, what you're seeing is a president who is now very publicly learning about the way people react to what he considers to be normal New York City conversation," Christie said.

Comey is set to testify Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee investigating possible ties between Trump campaign officials and Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

In seven pages of written testimony made public Wednesday, Comey outlined how Trump sought his loyalty and an end to the investigation into Michael Flynn, his former national security adviser. Comey also wrote that he told Trump on at least one occasion in early January that he was not being investigated at that time.
