An editorial in China's state-run media outlet lashed out at President-elect Donald Trump, writing, "foreign policy isn't child's play" and "Twitter shouldn't become an instrument of foreign policy," The New York Times reported.

The editorial in Xinhua, headlined "An obsession with 'Twitter foreign policy' is undesirable," comes after a series of tweets Trump has directed toward China, most recently Monday night when the president-elect swiped at the country for not helping out with North Korea's antics.

The empire struck back.

"Everyone recognizes the common sense that foreign policy isn't child's play, and even less is it like doing business deals," Xinhua wrote.

No response – yet – from Trump's camp, on Twitter or otherwise.
