Former Donald Trump foreign policy adviser Carter Page said Wednesday that "I have been cooperative with a lot of individuals in government" but denied that he had discussed the U.S. lifting economic sanctions against Russia in Moscow last year.

"In all instances, I told everyone that I was not there representing the Trump campaign," Page told Anderson Cooper on CNN.

"But you were clearly invited to give this lecture because your star had risen from your previous experiences in Moscow?" Cooper asked.

"I have been giving speeches in Moscow going back over a decade," Page responded. "All the top universities."

"Did you ever talk to anyone in the Trump campaign about lifting sanctions on Russia?" Cooper asked.

"Look, Anderson, I don't talk about internal discussions or things that may have been confidential internally."

Page's interview came on the same day that FBI Director James Comey testified to Congress, saying only that an investigation into whether Trump associates colluded with the Russian government during the election was continuing.

He declined to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee whether the president or anyone else was being investigated.

News reports have indicated that the FBI has obtained intelligence that Russians had tried to use Page and other Trump surrogates to infiltrate the campaign.

Page also has denied that he ever worked with or communicated with former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and that he had even provided candidate Trump with any foreign policy advice.

The FBI became interested in Page after he spoke at a Moscow university last July, criticizing U.S. policy regarding Russia, according to news reports, raising concerns that he might have been compromised.

Page repeatedly reiterated Wednesday that he had no specific conversations with Russians about lifting U.S. sanctions.

"I had no specific conversation that I can recall," he told Cooper. "Again, nothing that has anything to do with what was discussed in the hearings."
