Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer won't decide until next year whether to challenge a law that could bar her from seeking re-election.

Brewer was Arizona secretary of state and succeeded Janet Napolitano when Napolitano was named Homeland Security secretary.

She was elected to her own term in 2010.

State law prohibits a governor from more than two consecutive terms, but Brewer could argue she hasn't served two full terms, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Brewer is popular among conservatives in the Republican-leaning state for her stand against illegal immigrants. Her administration banned driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants who had been given work permits under President Barack Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

During the government shutdown, she led efforts to reopen Grand Canyon National Park.

A staunch opponent of Obamacare, she nevertheless supported the administration's call for the expansion of federal Medicaid benefits to Arizonians.

Given the political uncertainty over Brewer's plans, the field of possible Republican contenders in next summer's GOP primary is shaping up as a three-way race.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett, a conservative-leaning Mormon, has thrown his hat into the ring, as have State Treasurer Doug Ducey and Christine Jones, a lawyer. A fourth possible candidate, Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, has not announced his intensions.
The likely Democratic candidate will be former Clinton administration official Fred DuVal.

On Monday, Brewer announced that Apple would create more than 700 jobs at its newest U.S. manufacturing facility in Mesa.

"Apple is indisputably one of the world's most innovative companies, and I'm thrilled to welcome them to Arizona," Brewer said, according to ABC News.
