Rep. Brad Wenstrup: 'Grave Concerns' Over Canceled Briefing

Fox News' "America's Newsroom"

Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, decried the lack of communication between the country's top intelligence agencies and lawmakers Thursday, after a canceled meeting on Russian hacking operations leading up to the recent election.

"Well, as you know, we were supposed to have a hearing [Thursday], a briefing behind closed doors . . . and we were snubbed, basically, by the agencies who denied us the access to their information [Thursday] and to come and speak with us," Wenstrup, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Look, this is something that we have been concerned about for quite some time. This isn't new.

"But what's come out in these anonymous reports out of the CIA are not consistent with the public statements coming from the agencies, nor are they consistent with what we've been hearing in our briefings over a long period of time. So we want to get to the bottom of it. We want to do it in a nonpartisan fashion, and I think it's a concern to all Americans, and it should be. But what we're seeing that's being put out there anonymously remains to be validated or not."

According to Wenstrup, the committee asked the FBI, the CIA, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), for a briefing on the hacks of the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign manager.

"Let's face it, there's a lot of lessons to be learned from this and to know how they've been able to do this," the congressman added. "Why they have done it, and clear up some of the accusations that have been made through this anonymous report."

Wenstrup blasted the intelligence agencies for being unwilling to meet, but did not want to speculate on why the briefing was canceled.

The intelligence community released a statement about the cancellation, citing their commitment to an ongoing review of the report as requested by President Barack Obama.

"Once the review is complete in the coming weeks, the Intelligence Community stands ready to brief Congress — and will make those findings available to the public consistent with protecting intelligence sources and methods," ODNI said in the statement, according to The Hill.
