Fox News host Bill O'Reilly urged GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump in an interview aired Thursday to watch his speech to avoid statements that have gotten him into trouble.

On Thursday's "O'Reilly Factor," the host cited Trump's recent claim that "thousands" of Muslims in New Jersey cheered the 9/11 attacks. While news reports have found incidents of people celebrating in the United States, there has been no confirmation that thousands cheered.

When Trump countered that O'Reilly doesn't know that there weren't thousands cheering, O'Reilly said he was reporting at the time and would have been certain to have noted it if thousands in New Jersey were cheering.

O'Reilly suggested Trump might try having prepared remarks rather that always speaking extemporaneously to campaign crowds.

"Sometimes when you are up there you get overly excited and you are speaking extemporaneously and then you say things, as anybody would, because a crowd is cheering and everything is going wild that you don't know to be true but you believe to be true," O'Reilly said. "But you don't know it."

Trump said he could speak with a teleprompter like President Barack Obama does, but it wouldn't be as exciting.

"With the responsibility that you are seeking comes personal responsibility," O'Reilly said, "and when you say something, you've gotta be pretty damn well sure that it's accurate and it's not hyperbole."

"I have had very few complaints, Bill," Trump assured O'Reilly. "I've had very few complaints."
