The editor of a conservative magazine recently compared Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, a potential presidential candidate, to a baseball player in "spring training" regarding his foreign policy.

Speaking to Politico, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol said Walker is still learning the foreign policy ropes — although he's showing "real improvement."

"In spring training — especially when a player is learning a new position — you want to see basic talent, hard work and real improvement," Kristol said. "In Scott Walker's case, so far, we've seen all three."

Walker has yet to officially enter the race for president, but he surged to the top of the polls earlier this year. He is still at or close to the top, along with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush — who is expected to officially enter the race in the near future.

Over the weekend, a Pennsylvania straw poll among conservatives showed Walker is the preferred candidate on the right.

Walker's critics have pointed to his lack of foreign policy experience as a reason why he would not be a good candidate for president. They say governors, with their focus on states, do not have enough foreign policy knowledge and experience to lead the nation.

Walker, however, pushed back at that sentiment during an interview this week.

"In my lifetime, the best president when it comes to foreign policy was a governor of California," Walker said, referring to Ronald Reagan.

"In my lifetime, the worst president was a freshman senator from Illinois [Barack Obama]."

Walker served as the executive of Milwaukee County from 2002-2010 before assuming the office of governor in 2011.
