Vice President Joe Biden, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, will be the central draw for a Democratic fundraiser at the home of billionaire Tom Steyer in San Francisco on May 28, The Hill reported.

Proceeds will go to the Democratic National Committee.

Steyer has emerged as a major global warming activist and promised to channel $100 million into the 2014 midterm elections, The Associated Press reported. He's already held fundraisers featuring President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Steyer is a leading opponent of the Keystone XL oil pipeline that would deliver oil from Alberta, Canada, to the U.S. Gulf Coast, Reuters reported.

Keystone opponents say it will exacerbate climate change and enrich supporters such as the Koch brothers.

Proponents say it would create thousands of jobs and strengthen U.S. energy independence. The Koch brothers say part of Steyer's own fortune is built upon earlier investments in fossil fuels.

The Supreme Court of Nebraska is hearing a case about the route the TransCanada Corp. project should follow. The Obama administration has put off any decision pending the outcome of the case, Reuters reported.

Biden is purported to oppose Keystone, according to BuzzFeed. He has been traveling the country raising money for Democratic candidates most recently in South Carolina, according to his Twitter site. In February he gave the odds on his running for president at 50-50, USA Today reported. Biden, a former U.S. senator from Delaware, ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in 1988 and 2008.
