Sen. Bernie Sanders sparred with Mick Mulvaney during a Senate Budget Committee hearing Thursday, angrily demanding several times that the budget director explain to the American people why the wealthiest 1 percent deserve $3 trillion in tax cuts.

One day after calling President Donald Trump's proposed budget "grotesquely immoral," Sanders pounced on Mulvaney, the director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Sanders went after Mulvaney over Trump's proposed elimination of the estate tax, which would "provide $52 billion in tax breaks to the wealthiest family in this country — a family already worth $128 billion," Sanders roared.

Sanders was referring to the Walton family, founders of Wal-Mart.

"You think the Walton family … are just in desperate need of massive tax breaks," Sanders said. "Please explain your logic to the American people."

Meanwhile, the proposed budget cuts programs that fund Meals on Wheels and W.I.C. (Women, Infants and Children) and also cuts Medicaid per the American Health Care Act, passed by the House weeks ago.

Mulvaney defended each line item but still finding disagreement from Sanders over the nuances of how the cuts are made to what specific programs that some states choose to participate in.

Mulvaney also said the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) scoring of the AHCA distorted many of the facts and figures that Sanders was quoting. But even then, Sanders shot back.

"I find it unfair that Mulvaney and the Trump administration disparage the director of the CBO when it was Tom Price who appointed (Keith Hall) in the first place," Sanders said. "You guys are beating up on a man you appointed because you don't like his results."
