Sen. Bernie Sanders says the Democratic National Committee is trying to stack the deck against him by giving supporters of front-runner presidential rival Hillary Clinton more committee representation at the party's July nominating convention.

In an interview on CNN Friday, the Vermont lawmaker elaborated on a letter he wrote to DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, expressing his disappointment that of 45 people he recommended to serve on three standing committees, only three were selected.

"Are you suggesting the cards are stacked against you?" Sanders was asked.

"Of course," he replied. "More importantly of the 40 people that Wasserman Schultz appointed to the major committees, we have 3 out of 40 dislike the fact that as of today we have 45 percent of the pledged delegates."

"All that letter says is look, the American people are very suspicious of the establishment. Political establishment. Do not create a convention situation where our people do not get fair representation."

Clinton has 1,683 pledged delegates to Sanders's 1,362, according to The Associated Press.

Sanders also mocked GOP presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump's vow to woo Sanders's supporters because Democrats have been unfair to the Vermont lawmaker.

"I know that Donald Trump is staying up nights worrying about Bernie Sanders," he said sarcastically. "I know this is just coming from his heart and I know that he doesn't have any ulterior motive in saying those kinds of things."

"But let me just give Donald Trump some bad news. That is, number one, if I am the Democratic nominee, I'm going to defeat him and defeat him by a large margin. If I'm not the Democratic nominee, I will do everything I can to see that he does not get into the White House."
