While Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton faces a potential indictment as the FBI investigates the use of a private email server she used while serving as secretary of state, Bernie Sanders said Friday it would be a "terrible idea" for Democrats to turn to Vice President Joe Biden to run for president if the ongoing scandal forces Clinton to end her campaign.

"I think that would be a terrible, terrible idea," the Hill reports Sanders saying in an interview with The Young Turks, a pro-Sanders online news show.

"That would say to the millions of people who have supported us, that have worked with us, that would say all of your energy, all of your votes, all of your beliefs are irrelevant. We're going to bring in someone else," Sanders added.

"I happen to like Joe a lot, but I think that would be a very, very serious blunder for the Democratic Party."

Biden has danced around the idea of a presidential run, but has often stated that he is not interested in running for president as he is still mourning the death of his son Beau.

The Hill notes that Clinton currently leads Sanders by a large margin in the polls, however, Sanders has declared that he will stay in the race until this summer's Democratic convention.
