The scandal-scarred husband of Hillary Clinton's top adviser says the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee may be the most qualified candidate to be commander in chief since George Washington.

"You take a look at her resume and what she's accomplished, I think you can make a pretty good case that she's the most accomplished candidate for president maybe since George Washington," Weiner told MSNBC on Tuesday.

Weiner, who's married to Huma Abedin, said Clinton has been "part of the national consciousness forever — every list of the most admired women on earth she's always on it.

"But every once in awhile you need to reboot and just remind people about how she got started ... A secretary of state, a senator from a really diverse state that was going through very difficult times."

Weiner added: "Bill Clinton would probably would be the first to tell you that she probably would have made as good a governor of Arkansas back then for the work she did with kids.''

Weiner, a Democrat, resigned from Congress after being caught in a sexting scandal. When he later ran for New York City mayor, it emerged he had sent out explicit photos using the name "Carlos Danger.''
