CNN's Navarro: Trump Wrestling Video Tweet 'Incitement to Violence

By    |   Sunday, 02 Jul 2017 01:37 PM

President Donald Trump's tweet of a video showing him beating up a man with a CNN logo posted over his face is an "incitement to violence" against the media, CNN contributor Ana Navarro said Sunday.

"I think it's unacceptable," said Navarro on ABC's "This Week," where she was a member of a roundtable discussion. "As the president of the United States, [he is] taking things way too far. It is an incitement to violence. He is going to get somebody killed in the media. Maybe that will stop him."

Just before Navarro's comments, Trump's homeland security and counterterrorism adviser Tom Bossert said he does not consider the president's decision to tweet the video as a threat, which appeared to have been doctored from his appearance at Wrestlemania 23 in 2007, during which he threw WWE owner Vince McMahon to the ground outside the ring before shaving the wrestling magnate's head.

Trump didn't comment on the video or indicate where it had come from, but labeled it with two hashtags: #FraudNewsCNN and #FNN

“I am disappointed beyond belief by the answer that the homeland security adviser just gave," Navarro commented. "What a wuss. What a wuss. You could see that he is ceding his principles. You are the homeland security adviser and you can’t stand here and say the difference between right and wrong."

That is part of Trump's problem, Navarro continued.

"He is surrounded by enablers that do nothing but shake their heads and nod their heads in agreement with everything he says," she said. "They have got to stop. They have got to stand for democracy, for freedom of the press. This is just going way too far. The president of the United States is inciting violence against the free press and America, we cannot stand for it."

Navarro denied that people at CNN are scared, but said such things make them "more resolute not to cower at the bullying of this president."

"This is a free press," she said. "This is a free country. This is a democracy. And if he thinks that with these little tricks he will scare Jeff Zucker or anybody at CNN he's got something different coming. We are resolute, for tipping to search the truth, speaking the truth and calling out right versus wrong."

Further, Navarro denied that the tweet was funny.

"He can't think it's funny," Navarro said. "There's way too many unstable people out in the streets right now at this time of impassioned and heightened passions. We all know it. We've all seen it. We have seen the results of harassment and seen the results of shootings and seen the result of violence out in the street."

And for Trump, who is "supposed to be unifying this country on a July 4 weekend," but instead is "tweeting out incitement to violence," that's "disgusting," said Navarro.

"Let us not call it by any other name," she concluded. "It is disgusting by this president, yet one more disgusting act."
