Just 35 percent of Americans are confident in President Donald Trump's ability to handle the North Korea nuclear situation, while 61 percent say they are uneasy, a new CBS News poll reveals.

Here are the results by party affiliation:

Republicans:

  • Confident: 76 percent.
  • Uneasy: 22 percent.

Democrats:

  • Confident: 10 percent.
  • Uneasy: 87 percent.

Independents:

  • Confident: 31 percent.
  • Uneasy: 64 percent.

Here are the highlights from the rest of the poll:

  • Seventy-two percent are uneasy about a possible conflict with North Korea, while 26 percent are confident things will be resolved.
  • Sixty percent said North Korea's development of weapons is a threat that can be contained, 29 percent say it requires military action now and 7 percent say it is not a threat at all.

The poll, conducted Aug. 3-6, surveyed 1,111 people. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
