Former Vice President Al Gore pressed President Donald Trump not to exit the Paris climate agreement in a phone call Tuesday, Axios reports.

"Mr. Gore made the case for why the U.S. should stay in the Agreement and meet our commitments," said an anonymous source close to Gore, who added that although it’s unclear who started the conversation, "this is not the first time he's been in touch with the President and others in the Administration about this issue."

Gore and Trump met at Trump Tower in December, and told The Hollywood Reporter in January that the two were still in contact.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Tuesday that Trump will not announce a decision on the Paris accords until after meeting with the Group of Seven at the end of May.

"The reason that he's seeking the advice of his team is to get options and then he'll pursue the best one. But I'm not going to tell you which one that he's going to do," Spicer told reporters, according to The Hill.

Al Jazeera reports that Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to uphold the Paris agreement in a conversation with French President-elect Emmanuel Macron, saying their countries should "protect the global governance achievements contained within the Paris Agreement on climate change," according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
