Democratic Sen. Al Franken shot down any notion of running for president in 2020, telling ABC News, "I don't want to be president … it's too hard."

A guest on ABC's "Powerhouse Politics" podcast, Franken joked around the topic before saying "it's an incredibly demanding job."

"I can't even think about what's going on that far into the future, but I certainly have no intention, no plans to run," Franken told ABC. "Scratch the intention thing. I didn't know what I was saying. I have no plans to run for president in 2020.

"I don't want to be president. It looks like it's too much work, it's too hard," Franken said. "I've seen what the presidency is from a little closer than I thought I'd ever see it when I was a comedian. And it is an incredibly demanding job."

It's at least the second time Franken has said he will not run in 2020. The Minnesota senator said in a March interview that he's not running.

"First of all, I'm not running for president. I think that normally what senators do is to enter the presidential race, then lose very quickly and run for the Senate. That seems to be how it works," Franken said then.
