Speaker Ryan 'Working Hand in Glove' on AHCA With Trump

CNN's "The Lead"

House Speaker Paul Ryan said House Republicans and President Donald Trump were working "hand in glove" on the proposed legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, despite attacks from conservatives in both congressional chambers and the media.

"We're working hand in glove with the White House," the Wisconsin representative told Jake Tapper on CNN. "We meet with him constantly, daily.

"We've worked on this bill together. We jointly drafted this legislation — the House, the Senate and the White House.

"We are working on this together," he said. "The president is all in on this."

He noted House Republicans would be hearing from Vice President Mike Pence and Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price on the American Health Care Act in the coming days.

"We are all in this as a team together," Ryan added.

Ryan also slammed Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul for saying earlier Wednesday he had sold President Trump "a bill of goods" on the proposed healthcare plan.

Paul has introduced his own legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

"Frankly, I think that is kind of an insulting remark to the president — as if he doesn't know what he's doing," Ryan told Tapper.

In addition, the speaker said intelligence committee members presented him with no information supporting President Trump's claims he was wiretapped by the Obama administration during the election.

"That's correct," Ryan responded when Tapper asked whether his briefing by members of the House Intelligence Committee had yielded any such data.

Ryan noted a similar investigation into all of Russia's hacking-related activities was also being conducted by the Senate Intelligence Committee.

"I support what they've done, and I support their continuing investigation into this entire episode," Ryan said.
