Former Florida Rep. Allen West will join Fox News as a contributor, the network said on Thursday.

"Representative West's congressional and military experience along with his fearless approach to voicing key issues will provide a valuable point of view to the Fox News lineup," Bill Shine, the network's executive vice president of programming, said in a statement.

West, who lost his GOP re-election bid last year, will provide political commentary on daytime and prime-time programs, Shine said.

A member of the Tea Party caucus while in the House of Representatives, West is the director of Next Generation TV Programming with PJ Media in Florida.

While in Congress, he served on the Armed Services and Small Business committees.

West is a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, having served for 22 years. He holds academic degrees from the University of Tennessee, Kansas State University, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff Officer College.
