Former Rep. Anthony Weiner is "definitely running" for mayor of New York this year, one of his allies told the New York Post.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after admitting that he sent nude photos of himself to several women over Twitter.
Talk has been brewing for weeks that Weiner might run for mayor. Politico reported
Tuesday that the former Democratic congressman has hired a campaign manager, and sources say he's likely to announce his candidacy next week.

Danny Kedem is the new Weiner campaign manager, according to Politico. He worked on Democrat Mark Murphy’s unsuccessful congressional bid in New York’s 11th District last year. Kedem also has worked on several other congressional and mayoral races, in addition to serving as a field organizer for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign in 2008.
Some analysts think Weiner may have waited too long to jump into the race. The primary election is scheduled for Sept. 10 and the general election for Nov. 5. Weiner needs to start gathering signatures to get a place on the ballot, and he already has missed several debates and forums.
But he placed second in a Quinnipiac University poll of Democrats last month, trailing City Council Speaker Christine Quinn 28 percent to 15 percent.
