Donald Trump expressed sympathy for Speaker of the House John Boehner Wednesday, saying people don't understand that the Ohio Republican has the "toughest job" in America.

"I think the speaker probably has the toughest job in the country. He's got different groups of people within his own party that feel different ways about everything. So I think he's [in] a very difficult position," the real estate and entertainment billionaire told Fox News's Neil Cavuto Wednesday.

According to Politico, Trump cited the current divisions among Republicans in the House over how to deal with Obamacare and the upcoming budget negotiations as an example of the difficulties Boehner faces every day in trying to bridge the differences between the various conservative tea party and moderate factions of his conference.

"There is a problem, and part of the problem for the Republicans is you have two very divergent groups," Trump said. "You have people that are hard-liners that want very much to see [the government] shut down; you have others that are not so hard-line but they want Obamacare ended because they know how destructive it'll be.

"And actually, the Republicans are going to have to get together and choose one or the other. They can't be divided on the issue," he added.

Trump also fired back at Democrats and other critics of Boehner who have accused him of failing to take a stand on key issues, such as immigration and the push by some in his party to shut the government down over Obamacare.

"I don't think he's dragging his feet, and I think there are a lot of things going to happen," Trump said. "And we'll see what happens, but I don't think he's dragging his feet at all," Trump added.

Trump golfed with Boehner on Tuesday along with talent agent Ari Emanuel, the brother of Chicago Democratic Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

Politico noted that in addition to golfing with Trump, Boehner has been raising money for House Republicans in recent days in upstate New York and Pennsylvania.
