Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has been subpoenaed by the House Ways and Means Committee in its investigation of how the White House is enacting Obamacare.

Under the subpoena, Sebelius must provide documents and information on how taxpayer money has been spent on promoting the law from January 2008 to Wednesday, Politico reports.

The investigation covers the department’s public relations, advertising, and message-testing efforts regarding Obamacare. The department has signed at least two contracts, one valued at $20 million, for public relations services, Politico reports.

Dave Camp, the Michigan Republican who chairs Ways and Means, and Louisiana GOP Rep. Charles Boustany, who heads the House Oversight Subcommittee, issued the subpoena, Politico reports.

They warned Sebelius in an Oct. 24 letter that a subpoena might be forthcoming if the documents were not provided by Oct. 31. An earlier request had been sent in June, Politico reports.

“The lack of response leads me to believe that this administration is either unwilling to disclose why they are using taxpayer dollars to market their unpopular law or are unable to keep track of how those taxpayer dollars are being spent,” Camp said in a statement reported by Politico on Wednesday. “Either way, the American people deserve to know where their hard-earned money is going … after months of being unresponsive, I am left with no choice but to compel their cooperation.”
