Powell Praise for Obama Becomes Campaign Ad

By Stephen Feller   |   Thursday, 01 Nov 2012 12:33 PM

Republican former Secretary of State Colin Powell endorsed President Barack Obama on Oct. 25, and now an interview Powell gave is being used in a new Obama ad expected to be seen a lot in the next five days.

The Obama campaign will air the ad in Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia, Minnesota, and Wisconsin — all swing states considered important to the president’s electoral vote count for re-election, CNN Reports.

The 30-second ad, titled “Solid,” is based on a minute-long radio spot. Unlike the radio version, the one airing on television is taken entirely from a CBS interview and does not feature Powell’s criticism of Gov. Mitt Romney.

"When he took over, we were in one of the worst recessions we had seen in recent times, close to a depression,” Powell says. “And I saw, over the next several years, stabilization come back in the financial community. Housing is starting to pick up. The president saved the auto industry. The actions he's taken with respect to protecting us from terrorism have been very, very solid. So I think we ought to keep on the track that we're on."

Powell also endorsed Obama during the 2008 presidential election.
