Patriots Owner: I Like Tebow's Spirituality

Spirituality was a big factor, along with athletic ability, in the hiring of quarterback Tim Tebow, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft says.

"He’s a winner, and the fact that spirituality is so important to him is very appealing to me," Kraft said at a charity event in honor of his late wife, Myra, according to CBS Boston.

"For me personally, having Tim Tebow on this team, he’s someone who believes in spirituality, he’s very competitive, works hard and has a great attitude. ...

"You can't have enough good people around you, and [Tebow] has the added dimension of spirituality being so important to him, and that personally appeals to me a lot."

Kraft's soaring assessment of Tebow comes after he was unceremoniously cut by the New York Jets after a season in which he was hardly used. Even after the Jets benched first-string quarterback Mark Sanchez, coach Rex Ryan chose third-stringer Greg McElroy over Tebow, Yahoo Sports reported.

After weeks when it looked like he would not be picked up, the Patriots -- divisional rivals of the Jets -- signed him this week to a nonguaranteed deal good for two years, Newsmax reported on Monday.

He will serve as backup to Tom Brady.

Kraft said he was impressed at Tebow's throwing when he watched him at practice this week.

"To me, he looked pretty good. It’s fun having him here," he said.

Kraft also told USA Today: “You can’t get enough people like [Tebow]. … Life is about collecting good people around you. You can’t have enough good people.”
