Any attempt by President Barack Obama to bomb Syria amounts to him "saving political face," says former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin in a blog post on Facebook, criticizing his intent to wage war without a strong rationale.

Titling her post "Let Allah Sort It Out," Palin, a Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008, railed against U.S. military action proposed by the president.

"So we're bombing Syria because Syria is bombing Syria? And I'm the idiot?" Palin wrote in a sharp message posted Friday. "Bottom line is that this is about President Obama saving political face because of his 'red line' promise regarding chemical weapons."

Her message came before Obama's Rose Garden speech Saturday afternoon saying although he did not have to, he would turn to Congress for approval on any military operation in the Middle Eastern country, where he claims there is strong evidence that the government of President Bashar Assad used chemical warfare against its own people.

"All of us should be accountable as we move forward, and that can only be accomplished with a vote," Obama said as he made an expected case for limited military intervention, but no "boots on the ground."

"Yet while I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that the country will be stronger if we take this course and our actions will be even more effective. We should have this debate, because the issues are too big for business as usual," Obama said.

But Palin called his foreign policy strategy all wrong, questioning whether such action would help the Syrian people and wondering what impact, if any, Syria's attacks would have on U.S. national security.

"President Obama wants to do what, exactly? Punish evil acts in the form of a telegraphed air strike on Syria to serve as a deterrent?" Palin questioned. "If our invasion of Iraq wasn't enough of a deterrent to stop evil men from using chemical weapons on their own people, why do we think this will be?”

She added: “We have no clear mission in Syria. There's no explanation of what vital American interests are at stake there today amidst yet another centuries-old internal struggle between violent radical Islamists and a murderous dictatorial regime, and we have no business getting involved anywhere without one."

As all signs pointed to the president likely seeking military strikes on Syria, Palin posted on Thursday: "Mr. President, please give America justification before you spend blood and treasure to intervene. Start with: who are you rooting for in this?"
