Former GOP Arkansas Gov. and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee said on Wednesday that President Barack Obama’s measures to reduce gun violence will do nothing more than “comprehensively punish the law-abiding owners of legal firearms.”
“Most of the advocates who are pushing for banning certain types of firearms — even the truly sincere, but uninformed advocates — are fixated by what weapons look like more than what they do and who owns them,” Huckabee said in a response to an email query from Newsmax.

“I must have missed the president's proposals to ban Hollywood movies in which actors use destructive weapons,” Huckabee continued. “But, then, he would have to challenge the Hollywood pals who financed his political career instead of those who oppose him.”
At the White House, Obama presented his plan to reduce gun violence in the wake of last month’s elementary school shootings in Connecticut — including 23 measures that he signed into law by executive order and proposals to ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines that require congressional approval.
