Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel should jettison any notions of running for president in 2016 and concentrate on cleaning up Chicago’s out-of-control crime problems, according to political analyst Doug Schoen.

“I wouldn’t spend too much time speculating about his chances of being elected president, whether it be 2016 or beyond,’’ Schoen told Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV’s “The Steve Malzberg Show.’’

“Chicago is literally becoming the murder capital of America and he would be best to focus on doing the job he currently has rather than thinking about higher office.’’

Last week, the Daily Beast reported that Emanuel — President Barack Obama’s former Chief of Staff — is said by “well-connected Democrats’’ to be mulling a Democratic run for the White House if Hillary Clinton bows out.

But with just 2 percent of Chicagoans surveyed in a recent poll approving of Emmanuel, “he’s not doing well,’’ noted Schoen, a regular Newsmax contributor.

In 2012, 535 people were murdered in the Windy City last year, up from 433 in 2011. And last month, 43 were killed.

“[I] like being in New York where we have a mayor with an approval of close to 60 percent and we’ve had record low numbers of murders,’’ Schoen said.

For now, Emanuel, 53, is raising money for his 2015 mayoral reelection campaign.
