Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia said on Tuesday that the 19-year-old suspect has shown no remorse in talking with investigators about the Boston Marathon terror bombings that killed three and injured more than 250.
“There was not any indication of remorse,” Chambliss, the Republican vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told Wolf Blitzer on CNN about Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
Tsarnaev was arrested Friday night in suburban Watertown outside Boston. His 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan, was killed in an overnight shootout with police.
Dzhokhar was being held in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, where his condition has been upgraded to “fair.”
He reportedly had been shot in the neck and in the leg during the gun battle that killed his brother.

Chambliss said on Tuesday that he and other legislators had just been briefed by investigators on their interrogations of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
“There was no bragging,” the senior Georgia senator said. “It was sort of matter-of-fact — but you can’t talk about what you’ve done without some emotion.
“He’s responded with mixed statements and mixed emotions,” Chambliss added, noting that Tsarnaev was most likely still under sedation and that “this is a pretty traumatic experience for a 19-year-old.
“The FBI has a lot to sort out,” the senator said.
He declined to discuss specifics about what Tsarnaev told police, but reports have indicated that the brothers most likely acted alone and that they were motivated by the U.S. wars in Afghanistan and Iraq because they believed those efforts were against Islam.
Chambliss also noted that “It’s pretty clear that they read [Inspire] magazine,” the al-Qaida English-language magazine that provided instructions on how to make homemade pressure cooker bombs similar to the two used during the April 15 blasts.
“It’s all over the Internet,” he said.
As for the motive for the bombings, “It is not clear,” Chambliss told Blitzer. “It is not exactly clear why they did this.”
