Boehner: ‘Confident’ Immigration Deal Can Be Reached

By Todd Beamon   |

House Speaker John Boehner said on Thursday that he was "confident" Republicans could reach a deal on comprehensive immigration reform.

"This issue has been around far too long," the Ohio Republican told ABC News. "A comprehensive approach is long overdue, and I'm confident that the president, myself, others can find the common ground to take care of this issue once and for all."

Boehner was optimistic that Republicans could reach agreement with President Barack Obama on immigration, an issue that has hurt the GOP with Hispanic voters.

For instance, the president’s re-election on Tuesday was fueled by Hispanic voters. Obama won Latino voters by 44 points, according to the Pew Hispanic Center, The Hill reports.

Obama has said that immigration reform would be a top priority if he were re-elected.
