Families of the Americans killed in the attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, deserve to know what happened, and Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., tells Newsmax TV he is demanding that the House create a 19-member select committee to look into the attack.
More than 100 members of Congress have signed Wolf’s resolution seeking to create the committee. The parents of two of the four victims are also asking that the committee be created.

“Last week, the mother of Sean Smith, called me, and she came out in favor of the select committee,” Wolf tells Newsmax. “She can’t find out what went on. Today, Tyrone Woods’ dad came up to Capitol Hill and endorsed the select committee because he can’t find out. He doesn’t know what happened. Now we’re seven months away and both of their sons gave their life for our country.”
Smith was the information management officer; Woods was a former Navy SEAL. The mission was attacked on Sept. 11, 2012, also killing Ambassador Chris Stevens and former SEAL Glen Doherty. The Obama administration initially blamed the attack on an anti-Muslim video made by a California man.
“Why were they not rescued?” Wolf said, noting that no one has ever been subpoenaed. “Nobody has talked to anybody who was there,” and some now have been reassigned.
Congress needs to know what happened so it never happens again, Wolf said, so that the American people can know what happened.

Retired Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin along with 700 Special Operations officers have also asked for a special committee to be named.
House Speaker John Boehner plans to release an interim report on the probe into the attack next week, but Wolf calls it insufficient because no one has been subpoenaed and testified yet. Wolf wants immunity granted to federal employees so they won’t be afraid of losing their jobs for telling what they know.
Benghazi is being treated as a law enforcement issue, though it’s in an area of the world “that you can’t just go to,” Wolf tells Newsmax. “The FBI has been given a lead in the case and the FBI can’t just go to Benghazi and operate and arrest someone.”
He says, he is confident, however, that those responsible will eventually be brought to justice.
