A top adviser in Michele Bachmann's failed presidential bid has filed a complaint with federal election officials alleging campaign finance violations surrounding her campaign and her independent political action committee.

Dr. Peter Waldron, an evangelist who was enlisted by the Bachmann campaign to reach out to Christian conservatives, filed the complaint Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission, The Star-Tribune in Minneapolis reports.

The FEC filing follows Waldron's accusations last week that the Bachmann campaign withheld payments to staffers who refused to sign confidentiality agreements, the newspaper reports.

Waldron, who once served as Bachmann's national field coordinator, charges that the campaign improperly used money from MichelePAC to pay longtime fund-raising consultant Guy Short for work he performed just before last year’s Iowa caucuses.

Further, Waldron contends that campaign officials concealed payments to Iowa state campaign chairman Kent Sorenson, a state senator who quit Bachmann’s effort to join then U.S. Rep. Ron Paul's campaign, according to the report.

He said that Iowa Senate rules barred Sorenson from working on a presidential campaign for pay.

Neither Short nor Sorenson responded to requests for comment from the newspaper.
