Rep. Griffin: GOP Wants to Work With Obama to Fix Healthcare Mess

By    |   Thursday, 12 Dec 2013 04:54 PM

Rep. Tim Griffin of Arkansas — who with 33 fellow Republicans has asked for a meeting with President Barack Obama to discuss the Affordable Care Act — says the GOP wants to work with the commander-in-chief to map out viable changes that fix the troubled healthcare law.

"There have been a number of comprehensive bills, including the Republican Study Committee bill that I'm a co-sponsor of," Griffin told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"But before we get there, it's sufficient to say, look, let's talk about [these ideas], Mr. President … let's talk about which ones you like and which ones you don't like and why you don't."

Story continues below video.

Griffin said the GOP hopes to work hand in hand with Obama because "the reality is he's going to president for the next three years and I didn't want him to be, I didn't vote for him, but he is."

He is also optimistic that Obama will agree and the meeting will take place.

"He said he wants to hear ideas. We've got them and we'd be happy to share them with him. He said he would meet with anybody," he said.

"The question that a lot of us are asking is why does the president insist on doing things the old fashioned way, the old way, and that is top-down, where you find a problem and then you find the federal agency that can fix it."
