Steve Emerson: Obama Has Never Met a Despot He Didn't Like

Tuesday, 10 Dec 2013 04:09 PM

Nobody should be surprised that President Barack Obama shook hands with Cuban President Raul Castro at the funeral for Nelson Mandela, says Steve Emerson, executive director of the Investigative Project on Terrorism.

"Remember he bowed down to the king of Saudi Arabia? . . . That was another despot," Emerson told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"I don't think he's ever met a totalitarian leader he didn't like . . . It's part of the left valuing totalitarianism more than they value real, true democracy with its pluralism," Emerson said Tuesday.

The handshake raised eyebrows because the United States and Cuba were involved in a tense Cold War for decades and have not had diplomatic relations in more than a half-century.
