Piers Morgan: Staying at CNN for Big Name Interviews

By    |   Sunday, 02 Mar 2014 07:06 PM

Piers Morgan says he is not leaving CNN when his weekday show goes off the air and will likely do occasional big name interviews, Showbiz 411 reports.

"I'll make a deal to do 20 or 25 shows a year, all interviews with big names. That's what I wanted to do in the first place, not reports on snowstorms and that kind of thing," Morgan told the website.

Morgan said he expects his 9 p.m. time slot to be filled with a "news program of some kind."

Larry King, whom Morgan replaced on CNN, has said he is willing to come back

Morgan confirmed a week ago that the plug was being pulled on his low-rated show. The New York Times' David Carr said the British import was not favored by American audiences partly because he refused to embrace American culture, but largely because of his frequent calls for gun control.

Morgan told Showbiz 411 that he felt he was "beating my head against a wall" on the gun issue.

"Piers Morgan Live" is expected to end its three-year run sometime this month.
