Oliver North: NY Times Helps Hillary With Benghazi 'Fairy Tale'

Monday, 30 Dec 2013 04:50 PM

A New York Times report that says al-Qaida was not behind last year's attack in Benghazi, Libya, and an MSNBC report promoting the article, are "fairy tales" designed to help a presidential bid by Hillary Clinton, retired Lt. Col. Oliver North says.

"It's very clear to me that both the New York Times and MSNBC believe in fairy tales, Peter Pan, and the Easter Bunny," North told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Because this column . . . is just that: a fairy tale," he said Monday.

The Times reported that its investigation into the attack, which killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, revealed it was the work of local militia groups, not al-Qaida.

The attack on Sept, 11, 2012, has been a thorn in the side of Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time and has been criticized for her handling of the incident.

"What you have now in the New York Times is an attempt to justify for Hillary Clinton's lack of preparation, lack of any resonance with 9/11 being a terror anniversary for the rest of your life and mine and . . . the fact they then tried to cover it up," said North, host of "War Stories" on the Fox News Channel.

"Hillary Clinton, you mark my words, in the midst of the primary for the 2016 presidential election . . . will take out this New York Times piece and say, see, we told you so."

"This is a step in the direction of supporting Hillary for president, and in some way trying to find some kind of legacy for [President] Barack Obama."

North says security for February's Winter Olympics in Russia will be especially difficult in the wake of two terrorist bombings that occurred in Volgograd in the past two days.

"They've set up a fairly sophisticated security zone around the Olympics . . . I would not be at all surprised if outside the security zone you see one [bomb] a day going off. And, of course, it will be radical Islamists who are doing this, words that we're not allowed to say in political correctness in America today," he said.

"The Russians know who the problem is. Here's a wonderful opportunity for us to use our intelligence service in the NSA, the much despised and maligned NSA, to help the Russians deal with this problem because radical Islam is, after all, our enemy and their enemy, and the enemy of our enemy is our friend."
