Rep. Steve Scalise: Obamacare 'National Embarrassment'

By    |   Monday, 21 Oct 2013 05:34 PM

Obamacare's failed rollout isn't merely a "glitch," says a member of Congress who once programmed computers for a living.

"This is not some glitch; this is a national embarrassment," Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., said Monday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."

"Facebook cost less money to build than this, and they have over a billion users."

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius has refused to testify on Thursday before a congressional committee, though she says she will testify at a later date.

Still, Scalise said he wants to ask Sebelius how the website could be such a debacle since the government has had three years to set it up. The website has been reported to be using decade-old technology and wasn't tested until less than a week before its Oct. 1 launch.

"This is like Flowers.com not being ready for Valentine's Day," Scalise told Cavuto.

Consumer Reports is urging its readers to avoid the website altogether for at least a month.

Obama should acknowledge the website is a failure and delay the penalties imposed on those who don't buy insurance, he said. He predicted that as time goes on more Americans will be affected and will realize why Republicans dislike the program.
