UK Defense Adviser: Obama Incapable of Military Strategy

Monday, 20 Jan 2014 03:48 PM

President Barack Obama is incapable of developing military strategy and has confused the rest of the world about what he is trying to accomplish, says Sir Hew Strachan, senior adviser to the chief of the defense staff for the United Kingdom.

"The issue is strategy and policy," Strachan, who is also a professor at Oxford University, told The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"George W. Bush had a clear sense of what he wanted to do in terms of policy. Not everyone would agree with it, but he . . . [knew] what he wanted to achieve and he was able to communicate that.

"The problem for the United States' allies today is it's not at all clear to them what the United States is trying to achieve, and that makes it very difficult to be a loyal ally."

Strachan says the "worst-case scenario" of a muddled U.S. foreign policy is "that we have two potentially volatile, high-volatile regions of the world in which we've just been focusing on one, the Middle East. The other is . . . the Western Pacific.

This "creates the opportunity of real confusion and of miscalculation, with potentially very serious consequences."
