Bill Gertz: Potential Deal With Iran on Chemical Weapons 'Appeasement'

By    |   Tuesday, 19 Nov 2013 07:18 PM

Al-Qaida may be behind the attack on the Iranian embassy in Beirut, violence that some in Iran are blaming on Israel, says Bill Gertz, an intelligence expert and senior editor of the Washington Free Beacon.

"Actually, there's an al-Qaida group that is claiming responsibility for it,claiming that it was carried out in retaliation for Iran's support of the Assad regime in Syria," Gertz told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"I saw that they were trying to blame the Israelis, and I thought, there's no way," Gertz said, referring to Iran's Fars News Agency.

Gertz is alarmed that the United States appears ready to cut a deal on nuclear disarmament with Iran.

"Where's the discussion in the negotiations with Iran on efforts to stop Iranian support for international terrorism, specifically support for Hezbollah?" he asked Tuesday.

"Where's the demand that Iran stop shipping weapons to the Taliban in Afghanistan that are being used to kill U.S. and NATO troops? This is just rank appeasement."
