Gilliam: Trump's Quick Firing of Scaramucci Was 'Perfect'

President Donald Trump's dump of communications director Anthony Scaramucci was "perfect" – and Sarah Huckabee Sanders is "the Tony Soprano" of press secretaries, Jonathan Gilliam told Newsmax TV on Monday.

In an interview with Newsmax Now's Bill Tucker, the former Navy SEAL, FBI agent, and host of "The Experts" on Facebook Live said Trump has been quick to realize when there is a White House problem – and to fix it.

"I would like a president that doesn't exist in this fake perfect world where you appoint people, and they just stay there even when they're screwing up," he said. "I think Anthony Scaramucci was a terrible decision."

"What the president did was perfect," he added. "He brought somebody in. It was the wrong choice. He got rid of him. That's what you do in business. That's what you would you do in the military, and I think what he's doing."

He also heaped praise on Huckabee Sanders for her handling of the staff changes.

"She's the Tony Soprano of the press secretary," he said. "She smiles and crushes people at the same time. I think it's amazing. I think she's one of the best that's ever been up there. Once she gets used to that role, I think she's going to be the best."

But Gilliam said Trump needs to do more to drain the Washington swamp.

"He needs to look and stop looking for people that have these big flashy things to show off, and start looking for people who have real substance," he said, adding Washington "reflects overspending and massive budgets and very wealthy people. It doesn't reflect the rest of the talents and expertise that the rest of the country has, and that's what I'd like to see along with the generals in the White House."

He also thinks retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, now the White House chief of staff, might be able to "clean up 'oops' tweets" by Trump.

"He's overstepped his boundaries on Twitter a few times, but . . . I think that went to having a chief of staff that he didn't trust," Gilliam said of Trump's twitter habit and former chief of staff Reince Priebus.

"If he builds trust with his chief of staff, he can say . . . 'General, what do you think about this tweet?'" Gilliam added. "If he had that . . . I think that would clean up the 'oops' tweets, and he could continue to just hammer. But you got to remember this is a president that's going to continue to hone his skills in the White House."
