Webb Hubbell tells Newsmax TV the House Benghazi Committee's grilling of Hillary Clinton, his former law partner, nearly put him to sleep with its lack of any bombshells.

"I'm very sleepy, very sleepy. I don't think anything new has come out," Hubbell, who was assistant attorney general under President Bill Clinton, said Thursday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"These hearings are supposed to be about what happened and how do we prevent it from happening again? It's not some gotcha thing."

The committee, which questioned Clinton Thursday, has become a political football, with Democrats charging it was created to hurt the former secretary of state's presidential campaign. Republicans insist they just want to learn all of the facts surrounding the terrorist attack in which four Americans were killed and why there wasn't more security.

"I've been through enough hearings myself to know if they're good hearings and useful hearings, if the real purpose is to try to figure out how to prevent this from happening again," Hubbell said.

"There are a lot of things that go on in the State Department and there was a lot of confusion. Right after Benghazi, right after every time an embassy is taken over, people are looking around, scrambling around trying to find out what's going on.

"The facts have come out. Now we know what happened. Now how do we prevent it from happening again?"

Hubbell is author of "Ginger Snaps: A Jack Patterson Thriller," published by Beaufort Books.
