Rep. Walter Jones: Budget Should Put US Before Foreign Needs

By    |   Wednesday, 18 Mar 2015 10:31 AM

North Carolina Rep. Walter B. Jones says he won’t be voting in favor of the $3.8 trillion budget released by Republicans on Tuesday, telling Newsmax TV's "America’s Forum" that he doesn’t support sending more money down "a rat hole."

"I don't like the smoke-and-mirrors game," said Jones, a member of the House Armed Services Committee. "This is another example of trying to bypass the budget resolution. I didn't vote for sequestration, but when I see all the waste, fraud and abuse in Afghanistan, it's billions of dollars.

"And then we're going to cut programs for children and send your citizens here so we can take care of the Taliban, the al-Qaida, who are our enemy, by the way, they're getting a lot of the money we send to Afghanistan," Jones said. "It does not make any sense. I'm not going to vote for this budget."

The proposed budget calls for surpassing budget limits on military spending and slashing social programs such as food stamps and Medicaid.

The opium business is stronger in Afghanistan today than it was before the United States invaded the country, according to Jones, and the U.S. has spent inordinate amounts of money — millions of dollars a month, he said — funneling funds to former Afghan President Hamid Karzai via the CIA.

"Where's that money coming from?" asked Jones. "It's coming from you, me and all those people listening to your show and seeing your show who pay taxes. That rat hole has gotten bigger and bigger and bigger.

"Let's fix the rat holes, the roads and the bridges here in America first."
