Tom DeLay: SOTU Address Chock Full of 'Arrogance'

Wednesday, 21 Jan 2015 05:47 PM

President Barack Obama's State of the Union speech displayed a shocking "arrogance" toward Americans and lawmakers on Capitol Hill, former House majority leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV.

"It was arrogance, it was disdain for the American voter and their representatives, it was contempt for the American people," DeLay said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"I mean, even the referee should have thrown a flag for taunting. It was the most unbelievable performance I've ever seen."

In his address, Obama focused heavily on domestic issues, implying that he improved the economy and sparked job growth, and left foreign policy till the end of the speech.

The commander-in-chief also threatened to veto Republican efforts to roll back key decisions such as the Obamacare healthcare law and the loosening of immigration policy, and the administration's refusal to approve the planned Keystone XL oil pipeline.

DeLay said he believes Americans can see through Obama's smoke and mirrors and are ready to rebel.

"I've been talking for a long time to Republicans and others about a constitutional republic and urging them to do something bold," DeLay said.

"We are at a crossroads in this country and because the American people have seen Obama and progressivism and liberalism and socialism, whatever you want to call it, they're ready to reject it.

"And they did reject it in November, and here comes the president, completely disregarding the election and saying he's going to double down on the things he was doing. I mean, we don't need the Republicans, he's going to do it for us."

But the former Texas congressman, who is now a Washington Times radio host, urged the Republican-controlled House and Senate to act now.

"They'd better get their act together and make sure that they go on offense and not just react to this president. Not only just should they stop the president, they should be able to explain to the American people what is going on here," DeLay said.

"The president of the United States stood in front of the nation last night and he just eviscerated the Constitution over and over again. He wants full paid leave, he's wanting free community college, unconstitutional, the raise of minimum wage, unconstitutional.

"It's just amazing to me. Universal child care of all things, totally unconstitutional. That's why I'm so excited. Even if the American people can't articulate it, they know this is wrong and they know that it's going to destroy this country and they're going to reject it."
