RNC's Spicer: Hillary Straddles Left-Right Fence

Hillary Clinton is awkwardly straddling the political fence in a bid to gain broad-based appeal with voters as she revs up for a 2016 presidential run, says Sean Spicer, communications director for the Republican National Committee.

"Hillary knows her left is very vulnerable because she's trying to straddle this fence," Spicer said Tuesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"She wants to go out and pretend she's this moderate person that's in the mold of how people think Bill Clinton governed, or at least the perception of it.

"The fact of the matter is it's been four years since she's been the secretary of state under Barack Obama. She talked about it and said she was the champion of his foreign policy. She's got this conundrum about who she really is in a lot of times."

Eyebrows were raised this week when Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa implied that the threat from ISIS was not real, and Clinton, who was sitting nearby, just listened without contradicting him.

"Tom Harkin is by his own admission a very, very progressive member of the Senate," Spicer said. "Frankly, he's talked about how the fact that he thinks Hillary is moving too far to the right, that's the problem."
