Scottie Nell Hughes: Cruz-Kasich 'Marriage' Needs Counseling

By    |   Tuesday, 26 Apr 2016 11:38 PM

Ted Cruz and John Kasich created a "marriage of convenience" to stop Donald Trump — but they needed "to start going to marriage counseling … within 24 hours," political commentator Scottie Nell Hughes told Newsmax TV on Tuesday.

"They're already showing some signs in the break-up looming between the two," Hughes, chief political correspondent for USA Radio Networks, told "America Votes: 2016" host J.D. Hayworth. "With Sen. Ted Cruz saying, 'You know I'm not going to tell my folks to not vote for me' and the same thing coming from Gov. Kasich.

"With both of these gentlemen sitting there and advocating a brokered convention basically splintering chaos within our party, you have to look at the other side."

"Hillary Clinton's speech was very unifying," Hughes said. "It sounded very much like a general election speech.

"We, as the Republican Party, need to start unifying behind the front-runner, the clear front-runner in every category, and start trying to unify the message.

"If Sen. Cruz and Gov. Kasich really wanted to help our party and be a part of the process, right now would be a good chance for them to be the bigger people and go to Donald Trump and say: 'How can we help you be able to beat Hillary Clinton in the White House? We want to be a part of that team.'

"That would be the right thing to do at this point because obviously they have won the overwhelming majority in both the numbers, the delegates, the popular vote in every category that exists within this election."
