Rep. Scott Perry: 'We're Giving Iran More Teeth'

By    |   Thursday, 23 Jul 2015 08:38 PM

Rep. Scott Perry compares Iran to a "shark" during an interview with Newsmax TV, saying the United States gave the country "more teeth" in regards to the recent deal struck over its nuclear program.

The Pennsylvania Republican made the comments on "The Hard Line" Thursday evening.

"Unfortunately, the globe will be left with a nuclear-armed terrorist organization and state that is willing to project that power and that influence and that blackmail around the globe, and I suspect they will do so," Perry tells host Ed Berliner. "I mean Iran hasn't changed in 40 years and just like a shark, it's been long evolved to the point of near perfection at this point.

"We wouldn't give a shark more teeth and ask it to be less of a shark, and I don't know why we're giving Iran more teeth and thinking it will be less than what it has been for at least the last four years."

The United Nations approved the Iran deal before Congress had a chance to look at it, although lawmakers have 60 days to review it and vote either for or against it.

Secretary of State John Kerry appeared in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday to defend the deal he helped negotiate and construct. Republican lawmakers, however, were not impressed.

"I believe you've been fleeced," said committee chairman Bob Corker, arguing that the Vienna deal would give Iran "a perfectly aligned pathway" toward becoming a nuclear power in due time.

"With all due respect, you guys have been bamboozled and the American people are going to pay for that," echoed fellow Republican Sen. James Risch.

"Anybody who believes this is a good deal really joins the ranks of the most naive people on the face of the Earth," Risch said.

President Barack Obama now faces the challenge of garnering enough support for the deal on Capitol Hill so it can be approved.

"The White House as of yesterday was calling Republican representatives that they feel are moderately inclined to the deal," Perry says. "So [Obama is] going to be working it very hard and we need the constituency to call into their senators and representatives and say, not only no, but hell no."

Meanwhile, former CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden tells Newsmax he is convinced Iran has something to hide in regards to its nuclear program.

"If the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] does not come out of this inspection saying Iran was developing a nuclear warhead that leads through 2003 and have been lying about it then and now, if they don't come out of this inspection with that conclusion, I can tell you with high confidence they have not been given adequate access to the Iranian scientist or Iranian material," Hayden says.
