The nation needs a new head of the Secret Service to "shake up" the law enforcement agency and make it safer for President-elect Donald Trump and future presidents, according to journalist Ronald Kessler.

In an interview Monday on "America Talks Live" on Newsmax TV, Kessler, author of "The First Family Detail," said security around Trump will be challenging.

"He stirs up passions," Kessler said. "Presidents who stir up passions typically are targets of assassinations. So, I think we need a new Secret Service director who will shake up the Secret Service and make it safer for not only Trump but future presidents."

Kessler said Trump has maintained one private security person now that he is president-elect, former New York Police Det. Keith Schiller — pushing back on a report multiple private security members are guarding him.

"That's the only private security and the Secret Service director . . .  specifically approved including him in the detail which is unprecedented," Kessler said, adding Schiller "was the first to get to Donald at one of the rallies where Donald was being attacked. So, I think it's very wise to have this additional precaution."
