Susan Ferrechio: Huckabee Right, GOP 'Pushing Away' Base

By    |   Friday, 10 Oct 2014 04:41 PM

Mike Huckabee's claim that Republicans have hurt themselves by throwing in the towel on gay marriage and other social issues echoes past warnings by GOP conservatives, says Susan Ferrechio, chief congressional correspondent for The Washington Examiner.

"This is something that's not a new theme. The last election in 2012 you heard people like Rick Santorum and others say they are isolating themselves and that the Republican Party is pushing away some of its key base voters by trying to moderate itself on really important social issues," Ferrechio said Friday on the "Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"Now, Mike Huckabee is coming out and saying if they do that, they're going to lose a lot of support. There's evidence for that. There are some indications that people believe that Mitt Romney moderated himself to the point where the base simply was not excited enough to come out and vote."
